The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged murder of a 20-year-old housewife, who was found dead in her matrimonial home on February 28.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, said the case was reported on March 3 by a resident of Anguwan Sarakuna, Sale Isa, who suspected foul play.
He explained that family members raised concerns, alleging that the deceased’s co-wife might have been involved in the incident.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, assigned a team of detectives from the C Divisional Police Headquarters to look into the matter.
Their investigation led to the arrest of the deceased’s 28-year-old co-wife, who is now in police custody.
Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect strangled the victim.
In an attempt to hide the crime, she allegedly poured boiling water on the body and set it on fire using a melting Bagco sack.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries.
Wakil added that the Commissioner of Police has assembled a team of homicide experts to gather evidence.
The investigation may include forensic analysis and exhumation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
