Group demands Asari Dokubo’s arrest over alleged threats to oil production

The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has urged the federal government to take action against Ijaw leaders allegedly threatening to disrupt oil production if Governor Siminalayi Fubara is removed from office.

In a statement released on Friday, the group’s Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, called for the arrest of former militant leader Asari Dokubo, Ijaw National Congress President Benjamin Okaba, and Pan Niger Delta Forum National Publicity Secretary Anabs Sara-Igbe.

He accused them of making statements that could destabilize the country and pose a risk to national security.

Georgewill criticized their remarks as reckless and inflammatory, warning that such threats endanger both the nation’s stability and its economy.

“We call on security agencies to arrest Dokubo, Okaba, Sara-Igbe, and any other individuals or groups making threats against Nigeria, its economy, or its citizens,” he said.

He also emphasized that Nigeria is governed by constitutional democracy and the rule of law, noting that the Supreme Court has already made its decision, which Governor Fubara is required to follow.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju acknowledged the security concerns and assured the public that the authorities were closely monitoring the situation.

Additionally, the Niger Delta Rescue Movement, a militant group, had issued threats to attack oil facilities over the alleged withholding of Rivers State’s federal allocation.

The group also warned non-indigenes in the state to leave, citing potential hostilities.

In response, Adepoju reassured residents that law enforcement agencies were fully prepared to handle any disruptions.

“We are addressing the situation carefully. No one has a monopoly on violence, and the police command is ready for any eventuality,” he stated.

He urged the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, assuring them that their safety was a top priority.
