Troops repel boko haram ambush on Gov Zulum’s convoy, rescue seven hostages
Security forces escorting the convoy of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum successfully thwarted an attempted Boko Haram attack along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi road on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce gunfight, eliminating an unspecified number of them. In the process, seven kidnapped travelers were freed.
Intelligence reports indicated that the convoy consisted of personnel from Operation Hadin Kai, a Police Crack Team, and senior government officials.
The group was returning from Biu Local Government Area when the terrorists tried to seize travelers from a Volkswagen vehicle.
Upon spotting the assailants, the security personnel launched a counterattack, forcing the insurgents to abandon their captives and flee.
Governor Zulum was not part of the convoy at the time of the incident, as he had earlier traveled by helicopter.
All rescued individuals were unharmed, and no casualties were recorded among the security team.
Weapons and motorcycles left behind by the fleeing terrorists were recovered after the confrontation.
