Kano task force apprehends 53 suspected thugs, drug dealers

The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 53 individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities, including thuggery and drug dealing.

In a statement released on Saturday in Kano, the committee chairman and Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Yusuf Ibrahim-Kofarmata, confirmed the arrests.

He stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and drug abuse in the state.

The task force carried out intelligence-based raids between March 13 and March 14, targeting known criminal hideouts in areas such as Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’in, and Dan Agundi.

Security operatives recovered various illegal substances and weapons during the operation.

These included three parcels and 50 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, two bottles of codeine syrup, two tubes of rubber solution, and a gallon of a substance known as “suck and die.”

Other confiscated items included 105 suspected exol tablets, five cutlasses, two scissors, two clubs, and several charms.

A significant drug seizure took place in Zanzado, where officers discovered a large quantity of cannabis sativa at a suspected drug distribution hub.

Additionally, a delivery vehicle and five cattle, believed to be linked to a known drug dealer, were confiscated.

Ibrahim-Kofarmata assured that all suspects would face prosecution upon the completion of investigations.

He reiterated the task force’s dedication to creating a safer and drug-free environment in Kano, emphasizing that the committee—comprising security agencies and government officials—is committed to restoring peace and stability in the state.
