Kidnappers demand N30m for release of Katsina Qur’anic recitation champion

Kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N30 million for the release of Abdulsalam Rabi’u, the winner of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition.

Rabi’u, a native of Katsina State, recently emerged as the champion in the Hizb 60 with Tajweed category at the competition held in Kebbi State.

In recognition of his achievement, Governor Dikko Umar Radda hosted him at the Katsina Government House on Tuesday, March 11.

Tragically, on his way back home to Faskari, Rabi’u was abducted along with his father and five other family members.

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH, the Katsina State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu-Zango, confirmed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N30 million.

He said the government received the information about the demand on Friday.

According to the commissioner, Governor Radda is deeply concerned about the situation and has directed security agencies to take all necessary steps to ensure the safe and swift rescue of the victims.
