Police inspector dies by suicide in Ogun

A police inspector, Ajele Oloyede, has reportedly died by suicide after shooting himself at a ceramics company in Igbesa, Ogun State, where he was assigned as part of the security team.

The incident occurred on Thursday, according to information gathered by PUNCH Online on Sunday.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the discovery was made by an officer from the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, identified as Tolorunloju Stephen.

Stephen had returned from Ikeja around 1:20 p.m. and found Inspector Oloyede with his head resting on a table inside the security office.

When Stephen inquired about his condition, Oloyede reportedly replied that he was fine. Stephen then placed his bag and service pistol on the table before stepping into the restroom.

Shortly after, a gunshot was heard.

Upon rushing back, Stephen allegedly found Oloyede lying in a pool of blood.

“With the help of private security personnel, the injured officer was immediately taken to Ota General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Odutola said.

She added that police officers later recovered the deceased’s pistol from the scene.

The body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy, while the inspector’s family is being notified.

The case, according to Odutola, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation.
