The Oyo State House of Assembly has placed the Chairman of Saki East Local Government, Emmanuel Adedokun, on indefinite suspension following a series of allegations against him.
During its plenary session on Tuesday, the Assembly deliberated on a petition submitted by stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) within the local government.
The petition accused Adedokun of misconduct within the party, religious intolerance, and improper allocation of funds.
Among the concerns raised were the disappearance of key government assets, including a bulldozer, and claims that political appointees’ salaries were being subjected to unauthorized deductions.
The petitioners expressed their concerns, stating, “We acknowledge Governor Seyi Makinde’s initiative to welcome individuals from other political backgrounds to strengthen our party.
However, in our case, the person who benefited from this move has instead destabilized the party to promote his former political faction.”
They further alleged that since Adedokun assumed office, a government-owned bulldozer had been removed without any records of its whereabouts or financial returns to the council. “We urge urgent intervention to protect our party and ensure that our leaders and elders, who have tirelessly worked for the PDP, are not sidelined,” the petition read.
Following the review of the petition, the House ruled that Vice Chairman Rasaq Adeyemi should assume the position of acting chairman.
Additionally, the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) was directed to step in as acting vice-chairman.
The Assembly also tasked its Standing Committee on Local Governments, Chieftaincy Matters, and State Honours with investigating the allegations and reporting back with its findings.
