Abuja road crash: six dead, 25 injured in multiple vehicle Accident — FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that six people died and 25 others sustained injuries in a major road accident that occurred on Wednesday under the Karu Bridge in Abuja.
According to FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, the crash involved 18 vehicles, including two articulated trucks, two buses, one SUV, and 11 cars. Some of the vehicles were severely damaged and caught fire.
Emergency responders, including the FRSC, Red Cross, Fire Service, and military personnel, quickly arrived at the scene to provide assistance.
Ogungbemide said the accident was caused by a brake failure, which triggered a chain collision among the vehicles. “The crash occurred at about 6:58 p.m., and the FRSC received the alert at 7:03 p.m. More than 35 people were involved,” he said.
He added that out of the six fatalities, four victims were burnt beyond recognition.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, while the deceased were moved to the mortuary.
Ogungbemide advised motorists to regularly maintain their vehicles and conduct safety checks before traveling.
He also reiterated the FRSC’s ongoing efforts to reduce road crashes through public sensitisation and strict enforcement of traffic laws.
