NSCDC discovers illegal oil bunkering site in Rivers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered an illegal oil bunkering site in Odagwa, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi announced the discovery in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the corps, under Commandant-General Ahmed Audi, to tackling oil theft, vandalism, and economic sabotage in Nigeria’s oil sector.

Audi condemned the high rate of illegal bunkering in Odagwa and highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) to address the issue.

He assured that the corps would track down those sponsoring the illegal activities and ensure they face prosecution.

The CG commended CG’s SIS commander, Apollos Dandaura, for his achievements in combating crude oil theft, noting that the squad had dismantled more than 65 illegal oil dumps in recent months.

Recovered items from the site included large quantities of stolen crude oil stored in cellophane bags and kegs, materials used for illegal refining, galvanized metal pipes, metal buckets, and abandoned personal belongings.

Audi urged the public to provide credible intelligence to help curb oil theft and vandalism.

He assured that all suspects would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
