Ogun court sentences two to prison for ₦1.1m fraud
The Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun has sentenced Monsuru Dada, 64, and Idown Dada, 41, to one year in prison each for defrauding Emowe Godfrey of ₦1.1 million under false pretenses.
Although both defendants initially pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud, obtaining money under false pretenses, and theft, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo found them guilty and handed down the prison sentence.
The court, however, offered them the option of a ₦50,000 fine. Additionally, they were ordered to refund the ₦1.1 million to the complainant.
According to prosecutor E.O. Adaraloye, the offenses took place between 2018 and June 24, 2024, at Ajayi Egan in the Onibukun area of Ota.
He explained that the convicts had collected the money from Godfrey under the guise of selling him half a plot of land but failed to honor the agreement, instead using the funds for personal purposes.
