FG begins payment of N77,000 monthly allowance to NYSC members

The Federal Government has commenced the payment of the new N77,000 monthly allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling a commitment made by the scheme’s leadership.

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director General of the NYSC, had earlier assured that the revised allowance would take effect from March 2025.

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, also confirmed that any outstanding payments from previous months would be settled.

Reports indicate that several corps members began receiving the new allowance on Wednesday.

A corps member serving in Lagos, identified as Chinedu, expressed excitement, saying, “I just checked my account balance, and I saw N77,000 credited from the Federal Government. This is a huge relief.”

Similarly, CorpersDiary publisher Jeremiah Olatinwo confirmed that corps members nationwide have started receiving the updated stipend in line with the newly approved minimum wage.

The Federal Government first announced the increase in September 2024, aligning it with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. However, implementation faced delays despite repeated assurances from officials.

Now, six months later, the long-awaited payments have finally begun.
