Nigerian army prepared to overcome security challenges – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s ability to address the nation’s evolving security threats.

Speaking at the opening of the Senior Command and Leadership Seminar in Lafia on Tuesday, Oluyede, represented by Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Sadiq-Ndalolo, Chief of Training at Army Headquarters, stressed the importance of equipping senior officers with advanced leadership and operational skills.

The seminar was hosted by the Army 4 Special Forces in Doma, Nasarawa State.

He acknowledged the dedication of troops in maintaining security across the country and assured them that their welfare would remain a priority.

He also emphasized the need for continuous training to strengthen their capabilities in combating various security threats.

Addressing the theme of the seminar, “Enhancing Operational Level Command and Leadership within a Joint Environment”, the COAS noted that Nigeria’s security landscape is increasingly defined by unconventional threats, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, militancy, and terrorism.

“The Nigerian Army must be fully prepared to tackle these threats head-on by adopting innovative tactics and strategies to eliminate those undermining national stability,” he stated.

He also commended the troops for their recent successes and assured them of ongoing efforts to equip them with modern tools to sustain their momentum.

“A standard Special Forces training school will be established in Doma, along with the provision of essential combat training equipment across the country. I encourage all personnel to remain dedicated to the values of discipline, professionalism, and selflessness,” he said.

Maj.-Gen. Hilary Nzan, Commander of the Army 4 Special Forces, Doma, highlighted the seminar’s goal of enhancing officers’ expertise to navigate modern security challenges.

He also emphasized the ongoing collaboration with other security agencies, particularly in border regions, to address emerging threats.

“The Nigerian Army is committed to neutralizing all threats to national security,” he reaffirmed.

Governor Abdullahi Sule praised the military and other security agencies for their contributions to maintaining peace in Nasarawa State.

Represented by his deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, the governor pledged continued support through the provision of operational vehicles and other logistics to enhance security efforts in the state.
