The Senate has confirmed Bala Bello, representing the North-East, as the part-time chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

Alongside him, five other nominees were approved as non-executive directors of the corporation.

The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions during a plenary session.

The newly confirmed non-executive directors are Yusuf Sule (North-Central), Adeyemo Stephen (South-West), Yahaya Ibrahim (North-West), Odion Iyare (South-South), and Emily Osuji (South-East).

Presenting the committee’s report, Senator Osita Izunaso (APC-Imo), on behalf of the committee chairman, recommended their confirmation based on their experience, qualifications, and successful screening process.

He noted that no petitions were filed against them and that they had been cleared by security agencies, including the police and the State Security Services.

Following the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio thanked the committee for its work and expressed confidence that the new appointees would bring renewed energy to AMCON’s operations.
