Troops arrest two suspected in killing of catholic priest
Troops of Operation Safe Haven have arrested two suspects linked to the killing of Sylvester Okechukwu, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
According to a statement by military spokesperson Samson Zhakom on Wednesday in Jos, Mr. Okechukwu was abducted from his residence in Tachira, Kaura LGA, on March 4 at around 9:15 p.m.
His body was discovered the following day, March 5.
The arrests followed a raid on Tuesday at a Ruga settlement in the Warsa-Piti community of Lere LGA, Kaduna State.
During the operation, a 33-year-old suspect confessed to being hired by another man who lived in the same house as the slain priest.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of this second suspect in Agwan Sarki, Tachira, Kaura LGA.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to track down others involved in the crime.
