25-year-old man dies by suicide in Osun amid economic hardship

A 25-year-old man, Joseph Abodunrin, has taken his own life in the Dagbolu community, Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State.

His family members believe economic hardship played a role in his decision.

His cousin, Abodunrin Grace, confirmed the tragic incident on Thursday via her X handle, describing him as a supportive figure who concealed his struggles behind smiles.

She expressed heartbreak over his passing, urging others to prioritize mental health.

Before his death, Joseph had repeatedly hinted at suicidal thoughts on social media, mentioning his siblings as his only reason for holding on.

In a final series of tweets on March 24, the day he ended his life, he apologized for “failing” those who cared about him and encouraged them to keep fighting for their dreams.

“I’m sorry I failed you guys, I couldn’t just do it anymore… No matter how I explain it, you won’t understand!!!” he wrote.

He also revealed that his passwords were in the first page of his diary before bidding farewell.

On March 9, he had shared his internal struggle, questioning why he should continue living.

He expressed feelings of helplessness and mentioned failed attempts to seek help, saying it only made things worse.

Despite Joseph sharing the location of his suicide, his body had not been recovered at the time of this report.

The location he mentioned, ‘Dagbolu,’ was no longer active.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, ASP Akeem Adeoye, said he was not aware of the incident but promised to provide updates if there were any new developments.

Joseph had celebrated his 25th birthday on February 6, 2025.
