El-Rufai stands alone, SDP lacks influence – APC Woman Leader

Hajiya Maryam Suleiman, the Kaduna State Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former associate of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has distanced herself from the ex-governor, labeling his move to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a political misstep.

She dismissed the SDP as a minor player in the political arena, affirming her loyalty to the APC. “I have no intention of leaving the party because I am a committed APC member,” she stated.

Previously suspended for her criticisms of Governor Uba Sani, Hajiya Maryam has now expressed remorse for her remarks, acknowledging that she spoke without fully grasping the situation.

She described her comments as impulsive and praised Governor Sani for his forgiving nature.

“At the time, I didn’t understand the full context of the issues, but I have now realized my mistake and apologized,” she explained.

Once known as “Maryam Mai Rusau” due to her association with El-Rufai’s administration, she now refers to herself as “Maryam Mai Ginau,” aligning with Governor Sani’s developmental vision for Kaduna State.

Reflecting on El-Rufai’s tenure, she pointed out that some of his policies, such as market demolitions and the dismissal of primary school teachers, had severe consequences for many people.

“Governor Uba Sani, on the other hand, is a leader who genuinely cares about people’s welfare, whether he knows them personally or not. His approach is vastly different from that of his predecessor,” she remarked.

Hajiya Maryam also shared that she has been acquainted with Governor Sani long before he became a senator, describing him as a compassionate leader dedicated to improving the lives of the less privileged.
