Fire engulfs two-storey building in Onitsha

A fire broke out early Friday morning, engulfing a two-storey building stocked with textile materials on Ifejika Street, near Main Market on Sokoto Road, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The Anambra State Fire Service Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident, stating that a distress call was received at 6:20 a.m.

Firefighters and four firefighting trucks were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Chiketa assured the public that efforts were underway to control the blaze, which had spread to nearby residential buildings.

He urged residents to remain calm while firefighters worked to contain the situation.

He also expressed gratitude to security agencies and members of the public who assisted in battling the fire.

Meanwhile, sympathisers at the scene were seen attempting to salvage goods from the affected building.
