Gunmen kill 11 in Plateau attack
Gunmen have attacked Rubi community in Butura District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing 11 people, according to the state police command.
In a statement issued on Friday in Jos, the police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the attack, citing Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina, who condemned the violence.
The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) also verified the death toll.
The incident occurred on March 27 at about 9:20 p.m. when armed assailants stormed Ruwi village and opened fire indiscriminately.
Several residents attending a wake were killed, while others sustained injuries.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police ordered the Divisional Police Officer in Bokkos to take immediate action.
He later visited the scene to assess the situation and console the affected families.
In response, the Plateau State government condemned the killings and urged security agencies to track down those responsible.
Commissioner for Information Joyce Ramnap appealed for calm, urging residents not to resort to retaliation.
She reassured the public of the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
