Ebonyi police arrest man for motorcycle theft, fatal stabbing
The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, Wisdom Ogbonna, for allegedly snatching a motorcycle and fatally stabbing its owner.
Command spokesperson SP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the arrest on Saturday in Abakaliki, stating that officers apprehended Ogbonna in the Ezzamgbo area of Ohaukwu Local Government after receiving a distress call around 7:10 p.m. on March 27.
According to Ukandu, police arrived at the scene to find the body of Ugwoke Chibuike with multiple stab wounds around his neck.
Investigations revealed that Chibuike had given Ogbonna a ride on his motorcycle before the suspect allegedly attempted to seize the bike by stabbing him while they were in motion.
“The attack caused the victim to lose control, leading to injuries for both men.
The suspect later sought treatment at a clinic, claiming they had been in an accident,” Ukandu explained.
Police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack from the crime scene. Ukandu added that an investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court upon its completion.
