Police arrest customer for beating security guard to death in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man accused of beating a security guard, Ifeanyi Ani, to death at an eatery in Rumukrushi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Sources reported that the incident occurred on Thursday following a dispute between the customer and Ani.

The conflict began when the customer parked his car at the eatery with the headlights on.

Ani approached the vehicle to request that the lights be dimmed and found the customer’s wife inside.

While explaining the request to her, the customer arrived and confronted him.

Eyewitnesses said an argument broke out, and the customer allegedly attacked Ani, repeatedly punching him until he collapsed.

Efforts to intervene reportedly failed as the attack continued, leading to Ani’s death.

A witness described the scene as shocking, saying, “People tried to stop him, but he refused to listen and kept hitting the security guard.”

Following the incident, the eatery’s management detained the suspect and handed him over to the Mini-Okoro Police Division.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign confirmed that the deceased’s sister, Chinaza Ani, sought their help alongside the ‘Lawyers Watch for Justice International Initiative.’

However, she later requested that they pause any action while the family consulted certain individuals regarding the case.

Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest, stating, “The suspect is in custody, and an investigation is ongoing.”
