Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano.
According to police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna, the incident occurred as the Emir’s entourage was returning from the Eid prayer ground after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers. Local guards were providing security when the attack happened.
Haruna stated that Sagiru’s accomplices remain at large, and the police have launched an investigation.
The Shamakin Kano, Wada Isyaku, has also been invited for questioning regarding the incident.
“While dispersing from the Eid praying ground, Usman Sagiru and others, now at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later died from his injuries. Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital,” Haruna said.
The police have reiterated that the ban on all forms of Durbar celebrations remains in effect.
