Uromi Killings: Gov. Yusuf urges Okpebholo to publicly parade perpetrators

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has urged his Edo State counterpart, Monday Okpebholo, to publicly parade those responsible for the killing of 16 travelers in Uromi.

Speaking on Monday, Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the attack, emphasizing that many of the victims were from Kano State.

He made the remarks while receiving Okpebholo and his delegation, who visited Kano to offer condolences on behalf of the Edo people.

“Our people were traveling from Port Harcourt through Edo when they were brutally attacked—many were maimed, burned, and murdered in cold blood,” Yusuf said.

“Kano people trust you, and you have assured us that justice will be served. We appeal to you to ensure not only their arrest but also their public parade so the world can see those responsible for this heinous crime.”

Yusuf acknowledged the arrest of some suspects and commended the swift response of Edo’s security agencies.

He also lauded Okpebholo’s prompt visit to the crime scene and his efforts in ensuring the victims’ burial.

Reaffirming Kano’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, he warned against reprisals and urged leaders to collaborate in preventing similar incidents.

In response, Okpebholo assured Kano residents that justice would be served, revealing that 14 suspects had already been arrested and were being transferred to Abuja for further investigation.

He stressed that the attack did not reflect Edo’s values and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering harmony between the Hausa community and their hosts.

“President Bola Tinubu was deeply disturbed by this incident and has directed security agencies to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to book,” Okpebholo added.

The attack has been widely condemned by President Tinubu, the Northern Governors Forum, Amnesty International, various Muslim organizations, and concerned Nigerians, all of whom have called for a thorough investigation and swift justice.
