FCT Police Commissioner orders CID to investigate murder of graduate

The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Saka Adewale, has directed the State Investigations Department (SID) to take over the investigation into the murder of a graduate, John Johnson, allegedly by suspected herdsmen in Zhayidna, near Angwar Hakimi, Orozo, Abuja.

The victim, a member of the Boys Brigade, was reported to have been brutally killed on Saturday night, with his body dismembered following the attack.

In a statement issued by the police command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, Commissioner Adewale confirmed the details of the tragic incident and emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation.

The attack occurred on March 29, 2025, at a Boys Brigade camp in Zhayidna Village, Karshi, resulting in the death of John Johnson, who was rushed to the Karshi General Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ajao Adewale, has ordered a detailed investigation into the attack on the Boys Brigade camp by unknown assailants. The investigation is ongoing, and we are working closely with community leaders to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement read.

Residents were urged to report any suspicious activities or emergencies by contacting the following police lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, or 08028940883.

Amadu Zachariah, the Chief of Igala in Orozo, confirmed the attack and expressed concern over the lack of progress in apprehending those responsible.

He explained that the Boys Brigade initially set up camp in Zaina but moved to a nearby church to shelter from an approaching rainstorm.

Two group leaders returned later to collect their belongings, only to be ambushed by suspected herdsmen.

One leader escaped, but Johnson was captured and killed.

An eyewitness account aligned with Zachariah’s account, stating that the group had moved the children to safety at the church, and two leaders went back to the campsite to retrieve their belongings.

They were ambushed by what appeared to be Fulani herdsmen.

While one leader managed to flee, Johnson was caught and tragically killed.

Villagers who responded to a survivor’s alert arrived to find Johnson already dead.

Authorities were quickly notified, and a police investigation was launched.

Law enforcement discovered that Fulani herdsmen residing in the area had fled, increasing suspicions about their involvement in the attack.
