Wike inaugurates IBB Golf Club’s New Board, appoints Appeal Court president as Chairman
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday inaugurated a new Board of Trustees for the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Golf Club, naming the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, as chair.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja, Mr Wike said the FCT Administration is committed to restoring order and efficiency at the prestigious club, which has been facing internal challenges.
He urged the new board to reform the club by conducting credible elections, amending the constitution, and ensuring proper registration.
“We are not joking at all,” he said.
“We’ll give the club the support it needs to return to its former glory.”
Wike reaffirmed that the golf course remains the property of the FCT Administration, clarifying that it has not been privatized.
He also thanked the outgoing chairman, retired General Ibrahim Haruna, for his leadership and assured him continued recognition as a patron.
Justice Dongban-Mensem expressed gratitude to the minister for swiftly addressing the club’s recent challenges and praised past leadership efforts.
She pledged that the new board would work to restore harmony among members, uphold the club’s integrity, and promote its visibility both nationally and internationally.
“We shall not take for granted the confidence reposed in us,” she said, adding that the board would focus on collaboration, intellectual engagement, and sustainable management, including environmental protection and showcasing Nigeria’s potential through golf.
She called on fellow board members to unite in fulfilling their duties and encouraged outgoing members to continue supporting the club’s progress.
