Raising the Boy Child Right: A Call to Intentional Parenting in a Changing WorldBy Mercy Roland, CEO, MercySpeaks Initiatives

Many times, we focus on helping the girl child grow, and that is very important. But we must also pay close attention to the boy child. Boys are going through pressure too. They are told to be strong, not cry, and to “man up” even when they are hurting inside.

Some boys grow up without hearing kind words or being taught how to manage their emotions. They are expected to figure things out on their own. As a result, some grow into adults who struggle to express themselves or treat others with love and respect.

It is time for parents, teachers, and leaders to be more intentional about raising boys. We need to teach them respect, kindness, responsibility, and self-control. Let them know it is okay to speak up, to cry, and to ask for help. Let’s raise boys who will become strong, caring, and responsible men in the future.

A better society starts with how we raise our children—both girls and boys.

Let’s talk—how are you raising the boys around you? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
