Delta police officers detained for assaulting young man in viral video
Several police officers from the Delta State Police Command have been detained after a video showing them assaulting a young man went viral on social media.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development on Sunday through a post on X.com, which included footage of the incident.
According to Edafe, the officers were arrested on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, who emphasized the command’s zero tolerance for misconduct.
“We won’t tolerate incivility.
Gone are those days when brutality and incivility go unchecked,” Edafe stated, adding that the officers involved would serve as an example.
He further noted that the team leaders of the arrested officers, who are senior personnel, have been issued queries, and an orderly room trial is scheduled to begin on Monday.
While describing the evidence in the video as compelling, Edafe also appealed for further details from the victim to ensure a fair and just resolution.
