Two injured in rival cult clash at Osun Polytechnic
Two individuals sustained injuries during a violent clash between rival cult groups at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly began as a disagreement between two young men over a female student.
The altercation quickly escalated when members of both cult groups intervened, leading to chaos on campus.
During the clash, a student was attacked with a cutlass, while another female student was injured while trying to flee the scene.
Both are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Speaking on the incident, the institution’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Fadeji Joseph, confirmed the unrest but clarified that no lives were lost, contrary to circulating rumours.
“It’s true there was a disturbance earlier today.
A disagreement between two cult members over a girl turned into a fight involving both groups.
One person sustained a machete wound, and another female student was injured while running for safety.
They’re both being treated, and there were no fatalities,” he said.
Mr. Joseph added that security has since been restored with the intervention of the police anti-cult unit.
“The situation is now calm.
Police officers are currently on campus, and everything is under control,” he assured.
