Prime suspect arrested in connection with murder of Ore businessman, Police say

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended the prime suspect involved in the murder of Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila, a respected businessman from Ore, who was brutally killed in his home on March 1, 2025.

The suspect, identified as Ijalo, a resident of Osogbo, was arrested on April 10, 2025, after a thorough investigation and a targeted manhunt that led officers back to Ore.

During the operation, police recovered a locally-made pistol, which is believed to have been used in the crime, as well as several criminal charms, from the suspect’s residence.

According to a statement, the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case, which has drawn widespread attention.

CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, the Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, commended the efforts of the officers involved in the investigation.

He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.

The commissioner also stressed that intelligence-driven policing will continue to be the focus, with the aim of eliminating criminal activities from Ondo State.

The police assured the public that they will leave no stone unturned in bringing justice to the family of the late businessman and the community.
