Police officer arrested for allegedly stabbing Ekiti resident over school dispute
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a police officer accused of stabbing a resident in Ise-Ekiti following a dispute involving the officer’s girlfriend and the victim’s son.
The incident came to light after a viral video posted on X by Yoruba Times, in which the victim’s daughter alleged that the officer—reportedly an orderly to a local chairman—attacked her father at their home.
She claimed the altercation stemmed from a disagreement at school between her younger brother and the officer’s girlfriend, who is said to be a classmate.
“They came to our house looking for my brother, but when they didn’t find him, they attacked my dad and elder brother instead,” she said in the video.
In response, the Ekiti State Police spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday, confirmed that the officer has been taken into custody.
According to a statement shared via the Police Complaint X account, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, to take over the case and conduct a thorough investigation.
The police urged the public, particularly the victim’s family, to remain calm, assuring that justice will be served.
