Three suspected petrol truck hijackers arrested in Oyo
Police in Oyo State have arrested three suspects linked to the hijacking of a petrol-laden truck belonging to NIPCO Limited.
According to the state police spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, the incident occurred on April 5 around 1:00 a.m. along the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Road.
The truck, a DAF vehicle with registration number Adamawa YLA 575 ZY, was carrying 45,000 liters of petrol when it was seized by an armed group.
Following the report, specialized officers from the command’s monitoring unit launched an investigation.
Their efforts led to the discovery of the stolen truck at Lincoln Filling Station in Odo-Ona Kekere, Ibadan, where the suspects were attempting to siphon the fuel.
Two individuals were apprehended at the scene.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that a man identified as Femi had handed over the truck to them and was allegedly behind the hijacking operation.
This led to the arrest of a third suspect, aged 30, who reportedly played a central role in planning and executing the crime.
The police say investigations are ongoing to dismantle the criminal network.
Osifeso urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, stressing the importance of community involvement in tackling crime.
