The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms across parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday.
In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet said thunderstorms are expected on Sunday afternoon or evening in areas of Taraba, Adamawa, and southern Kaduna.
North Central states like Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kwara, Niger, and Kogi may also experience isolated thunderstorms later in the day.
Cloudy skies are expected in the South on Sunday morning, with localised thunderstorms likely in parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Delta.
More storms are expected later in the day in Anambra, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Imo, Abia, Ekiti, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.
On Monday, sunny conditions are expected in most parts of the North, though isolated storms may occur in Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba in the afternoon or evening.
The North Central region will have sunny skies in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms in Plateau, the FCT, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa.
In the South, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected on Monday morning, with morning thunderstorms in parts of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River.
Later in the day, thunderstorms may affect Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Delta.
By Tuesday, sunny skies are expected in the North during the morning, with chances of thunderstorms in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna later.
The North Central region will also start with sunny conditions, followed by isolated storms in Benue, Kogi, Plateau, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa.
In the South, morning thunderstorms may occur in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos.
Later, storms are expected in Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Oyo, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
NiMet advised Nigerians to stay hydrated and avoid exposure to high temperatures to reduce the risk of heat stress.
The agency also recommended getting vaccinated against meningitis, maintaining good hygiene, and avoiding crowded spaces.
It warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and urged residents and airline operators to stay informed through NiMet’s updates and forecasts.
