The federal government has initiated an investigation into claims that officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) extorted ₦5.2 million from a group of youths in Ekiti State.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has instructed an official probe into the matter, as confirmed by his media aide, Alao Babatunde, in a statement.
According to reports circulating on social media, the NSCDC officers are accused of demanding the large sum from young men traveling from Ado-Ekiti to Akure, Ondo State.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured the public that any officer found guilty of the allegations would face legal consequences.
“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct from our security agencies,” the Minister stated.
“We are working to build a disciplined, professional paramilitary force that serves Nigeria and its citizens with dignity and patriotism.
In this case, we will ensure justice is served and that security personnel uphold integrity in their service.”
