PDP Crisis: Bode George criticizes Atiku over Buhari meeting, coalition talks

Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Chief Bode George, has voiced strong disapproval of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent visit to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, George condemned the meeting and dismissed the proposed opposition coalition as a strategy to undermine the PDP.

Atiku has been pushing for the formation of a mega political alliance aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

His visit to Buhari, alongside former governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), is widely seen as part of that broader coalition-building effort.

Reacting to the development, George questioned the rationale behind Atiku’s actions, saying,

“Those who are forming a mega party—what is the purpose? You’re already part of a well-established organization.

Why would you go to Buhari, who isn’t even a PDP member? PDP isn’t a private company—it belongs to all of us.

If you have a proposal, bring it within the party structure. Let’s discuss it.”

He continued, “You ran against Buhari and lost, and now you’re back shaking hands with him? And the group that visited him—where were the other voices from within our party? It looks one-sided.”

George further warned that the coalition efforts risk deepening divisions in the country, asking, “Is this an attempt to split Nigeria along regional lines—north versus south?”

He urged PDP members nationwide to unite and rebuild the party from within rather than supporting what he described as Atiku’s personal political ambition.
