The Imo State Police Command has arrested two women in Owerri for attempting to sell a kidnapped four-year-old boy for ₦2.7 million.

According to police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye, the suspects—Joy Ugwu from Kogi State and Rosella Michael from Abuja—were apprehended on April 14 following a discreet operation by the police Scorpion Unit.

A third suspect, believed to be a nurse, is still on the run.

Investigations revealed that the boy, identified as Jaffa Umar, was kidnapped in Abuja while hawking vegetables.

He was then taken to Owerri, where the suspects tried to sell him before being intercepted.

The child has since been reunited with his family through coordinated efforts between the Imo Police Command and Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja. The arrested suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, assured the public of the Command’s continued efforts to combat child trafficking and urged residents to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
