Breaking: Court allows FG witnesses to testify behind screen in Kanu’s trial

Witnesses set to testify against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will do so behind a screen following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja.

Justice James Omotosho approved the request on Tuesday after hearing an ex-parte application from the Federal Government’s counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN).

Awomolo argued that concealing the identities of the witnesses was necessary due to the sensitive nature of the terrorism charges Kanu is facing.

The court agreed that shielding the witnesses would enhance their safety.

Kanu is currently standing trial on a seven-count charge related to terrorism, filed by the Federal Government.

Kanu’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), did not oppose the application but requested that the government reciprocate with cooperation when bail matters arise.

With the court’s approval, the prosecution proceeded to call its first witness, referred to as PWAAA, marking the formal start of the government’s case against Kanu.
