Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has stated that President Bola Tinubu must be re-elected in 2027 to ensure the continuity of his administration’s reform agenda.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Keyamo warned that it would be “tragic” for a new government to halt Tinubu’s ongoing policies.
“I don’t care whether it affects me politically or not—Mr President must be re-elected,” Keyamo said, stressing that personal or political sacrifices should be secondary to securing a second term for Tinubu. He cited his own recent political concessions in Delta State as part of efforts to strengthen the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the next election.
According to the minister, all APC members should rally behind Tinubu regardless of personal interests.
“Every single APC member in Nigeria today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
“He needs a second term to complete the reforms already in motion.”
Keyamo’s remarks come amid growing criticism of the Tinubu administration over economic hardship and rising poverty.
Recent reports from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have painted a bleak picture of Nigeria’s economy.
The IMF noted that poverty and food inflation remain high, while the World Bank’s Africa Pulse report for April 2025 revealed that Nigeria currently has the world’s largest population of people living in extreme poverty—a situation projected to worsen by 2027.
