Court declares ex-police officer wanted for 2015 murder of Lagos woman

A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square has declared former police officer Aremu Musiliu wanted in connection with the 2015 murder of Comfort Udoh.

Musiliu is accused of fatally shooting Comfort in the head on September 16, 2015, at Ijegun Bus Stop, Lagos, after allegedly attempting to extort N2,000 from her husband, Pastor Godwin Udoh of the Full Gospel Church of God.

The couple, along with their four children—including an 11-month-old baby—were returning from a church programme when their tricycle was stopped by Musiliu and other officers.

Pastor Udoh sustained gunshot wounds to his jaw and shoulder during the incident.

Despite being dismissed from the police force and initially remanded in custody, Musiliu was granted bail in 2017.

Since then, he has failed to appear in court, prompting repeated summons and raising concerns over lapses by both police and correctional authorities.

On April 9, 2025, Justice S.I. Sonaike of Court 29, Criminal Division, approved the prosecution’s application to declare Musiliu wanted.

The court ordered that he be arrested and brought before the court to face trial for the murder.

A legal advisory signed by Assistant Chief Counsel Taiwo Lambo confirmed Musiliu’s confession to shooting at the tricycle, resulting in Comfort’s death and her husband’s injuries.

Pastor Udoh, speaking to the press, appealed to the public for support, stating that he is struggling to support his children and is at risk of eviction.

“My children are out of school. I want fellow Nigerians to help me,” he pleaded.
