Family accuses retired Police Commissioner, church of interfering in murder investigation

The family of 24-year-old Saheed Shoboyejo, who was murdered two months ago in Osuke community, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, has accused a retired Commissioner of Police and a church of attempting to sabotage the investigation into his death.

During a press briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, the grieving family expressed frustration over what they described as deliberate efforts to obstruct justice.

They alleged that the prime suspect in the case has been boasting about his potential release, despite what they claim is substantial evidence linking him to the crime.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, had earlier directed that the suspect be transferred from Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Abuja for further investigation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, also gave assurances that a thorough investigation would be conducted.

However, the family raised concerns over the delay in charging the suspect to court.

They called on the IGP to ensure the case is not swept under the rug.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Olusoji Jinadu said: “We are appealing to the IGP to intervene, as we believe the SIU is facing pressure to release the suspect.

Within two weeks of taking over the case, SIU gathered sufficient evidence and assured us that arraignment would follow shortly.”

Jinadu also revealed that detectives from SIU visited the murder scene in Lagos and uncovered more leads, including a female police inspector allegedly linked to the suspect. She was invited to Abuja for questioning.

“The suspect has been calling people, boasting that he only needs money to secure his release.

Both Sango Area Command and Zone 2 already gathered strong evidence for prosecution,” he added.

“We also have reliable information that a retired police commissioner and a church the suspect claims to work with are lobbying for his release.”

The family has urged the Inspector General of Police to ensure that due process is followed and that justice is served by arraigning the suspect in court without further delay.
