The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old woman suspected of trafficking ammunition to terrorist groups operating in high-risk local government areas.
Police spokesperson SP Ramhan Nansel revealed the arrest during a press briefing on Thursday in Lafia, the state capital.
He identified the suspect as Fatima Salisu, a native of Funtua, Katsina State.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers intercepted the suspect in the Azuba area of Lafia while she was allegedly transporting ammunition intended for delivery through Keana and Doma LGAs to criminal elements in Katsina.
Following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit swiftly launched an operation that led to her arrest.
The police recovered 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition from her possession.
Salisu is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, with investigations ongoing to uncover the wider arms trafficking network and its links to terrorism and armed banditry.
The Police described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to combat illegal arms distribution in the region and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety.
They also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and reliable information.
