The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Inspector Obic Modestus, following a viral video that captured him violently assaulting an Uber driver.
The video, posted by X user @dammiedammie35, identified as Oyindamola, shows the officer repeatedly striking the driver in what has sparked widespread outrage.
“A new video of Nigerian policemen violently assaulting an Uber driver.
Please spread this video — this is someone’s father they’re beating like an animal,” the user wrote.
Reacting to the incident on Monday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced that Inspector Modestus has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit.
He will be transferred to the Provost Department for disciplinary action.
CSP Hundeyin emphasized that the Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, does not tolerate any form of misconduct or brutality towards members of the public.
