An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Tuesday ordered the remand of 11 men in prison custody in connection with an alleged murder and acts of arson.
The defendants—Alim Olumuyi (51), Lateef Kareem (60), Kazeem Adeyemo (52), Oderinde Adedayo (45), Idowu Oladipupo (50), Tijani Akanmu (50), Yakub Oyelahan (65), Michael Abiodun (57), Akeem Akande (45), Kazeem Oke (48), and Ishola Adebayo (60)—are facing a five-count charge that includes conspiracy, murder, and arson.
Magistrate Gladys Oladele declined to take their plea, citing a lack of jurisdiction in the matter.
She instructed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and adjourned the case until June 16 for mention.
According to police prosecutor Samuel Owolabi, the accused committed the offences on March 7 in the Lagelu area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the group unlawfully caused the death of one Segun Babatunde by shooting him.
Owolabi further stated that the defendants were responsible for setting fire to several buildings valued at N150 million, and also destroyed a tractor worth N120 million belonging to one Idowu Biliaminu by setting it ablaze.
