Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Friday, June 6, 2025, will be observed as Eid-el-Adha (Sallah Day), following the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the beginning of Dhul Hijjah—the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
The confirmation came through a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Haramain Sharifain on Tuesday, stating that Dhul Hijjah 1446 will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Key Islamic dates have been outlined as follows:
Dhul Hijjah Begins – Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Day of Arafah – Thursday, June 5, 2025
Eid-el-Adha – Friday, June 6, 2025
The Day of Arafah, observed on June 5, marks the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage, when millions of Muslims gather at Mount Arafat in prayer and reflection.
Eid-el-Adha, celebrated the following day, commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) unwavering faith and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.
It is one of the most significant festivals in Islam and is marked by communal prayers, charity, and the ritual sacrifice of animals.
Haramain Sharifain also shared a popular pilgrim’s chant recited upon entering the state of ihram:
“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.”
(“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. Verily, all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You alone.”)
In 2024, Eid-el-Adha fell on June 16. With this year’s date confirmed, Muslims around the world can now begin preparations for the holy period, which includes Hajj rituals, prayer, and charitable acts.
