The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has announced that popular Nigerian musicians Davido (David Adeleke) and Asa (Bukola Elemide) will perform at the opening of the 22nd National Sports Festival.
The event will take place on Sunday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, starting at 5 p.m.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is scheduled to officially open the festival.
Olopade, who also chairs the Main Organising Committee, described the festival as Nigeria’s own version of the Olympics, emphasizing the importance of world-class standards in both competition and organization.
He highlighted the collaborative efforts between the National Sports Commission and Ogun State Government to deliver a top-tier event.
“This is the first National Sports Festival where the initial two days will be free from any issues related to accommodation and feeding.
I am very excited about the event and what the opening ceremony holds,” Olopade said.
He also revealed that Asa will kick off the performances, while Davido will close the ceremony.
He encouraged Nigerians to watch the event on television to experience an opening like never before.
The festival began on Friday with the arrival of delegations from various states, alongside preliminary competitions in weightlifting and Kung Fu.
This marks the second time Ogun State is hosting the multi-sport festival since first doing so in 2006.
