The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, has dismissed concerns that recent defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could affect Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of securing a second term in 2026.
Bisi described the wave of defections as “a storm in a teacup,” insisting that Adeleke continues to enjoy widespread support across all sectors in the state.
His remarks follow reports that some PDP members, including Wole Oke, a current member of the House of Representatives representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, have defected to the APC.
Former senator Felix Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central between 2003 and 2007, also left the party along with several followers.
The defections have sparked anxiety within the PDP and fueled mockery from APC figures, particularly after the three PDP senators from Osun publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Despite the growing political tension, Bisi expressed confidence in Adeleke’s popularity and performance.
“These defections are not significant,” he said in an interview on Wednesday.
“If you want to talk about a real defection, look at what happened in Delta State, where the governor and the PDP structure joined the APC. That’s a major shift. What’s happening in Osun doesn’t compare.”
Bisi praised Governor Adeleke for his achievements in infrastructure and social development, arguing that his governance record will earn him re-election.
“He has been performing excellently, and the people will reward that at the polls in 2026,” he said.
