Former Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chukwuma Nwazunku, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwazunku, who recently completed his term as the representative for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, announced his defection on Saturday during an APC meeting in Echiaba Ward, Ebonyi Local Government Area.
Receiving the former lawmaker and his supporters, APC State Chairman Stanley Okoro-Emegha, represented by the party’s LGA Chairman Patrick Orogbo, praised the move as both bold and strategic.
He assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the party, emphasizing APC’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and inclusiveness.
Echiaba Ward Chairman Amobi Nwofoke also lauded Governor Francis Nwifuru’s achievements, crediting the governor’s developmental efforts for reducing political opposition in the state and fostering unity.
Speaking at the event, Nwazunku said he had long lost confidence in the PDP, citing its weakening structure and internal divisions.
He attributed his move to the APC to the accomplishments of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru, promising to mobilize statewide support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The event drew several political stakeholders and reflects a growing trend of defections to the APC in Ebonyi State.
