22-year-old who fell from cocoa house laid to rest amid grief in Ibadan

Feranmi Akin-Akinye, a 22-year-old graduate who tragically fell from the 26th floor of the Cocoa House in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been buried amidst tears and sorrow.

Akin-Akinye, a graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), was undergoing cybersecurity training with a company located on the eighth floor of the iconic building.

According to a reliable source who requested anonymity, he resided with his mother in the Meridian area of Apata, Ibadan, while his father lives in the United States.

The source alleged that Akin-Akinye had been asked by the company to mount a large wall banner at the top of the building—a task typically reserved for trained professionals with the necessary safety equipment.

“I hold the company responsible for his death,” the source stated.

“He was from a decent family, humble and respectful. He shouldn’t have been assigned such a dangerous task, but he agreed to it because of his character.”

The source further claimed that the company tried to downplay the incident, alleging that Akin-Akinye was taken to an emergency ward despite being already deceased and that his mother was not promptly informed. Additionally, it was alleged that the company prevented a radio station located within Cocoa House from taking photographs and quickly covered the deceased’s body.

Akin-Akinye was buried on Tuesday under the auspices of his church, Winners Chapel.

Meanwhile, members of his father’s family are reportedly considering legal action against the company over alleged negligence.
