The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recalled an entire patrol unit after bribery allegations surfaced in a report published by an online media outlet.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirmed that Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed ordered the immediate recall to enable a thorough investigation and possible disciplinary action.
“The Corps Marshal has taken decisive action following a viral report by Premium Media alleging bribery by certain patrol operatives,” the statement read.
“The entire team mentioned has been recalled for a detailed investigation and necessary sanctions.”
Ogungbemide reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption and misconduct, stressing that any personnel found guilty could face dismissal and criminal prosecution.
The Corps also responded to references in the report regarding a 2021 incident in which some FRSC officials were arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
It acknowledged the broader issue of corruption in Nigeria but emphasized its ongoing internal efforts to combat unethical behavior.
FRSC highlighted its collaboration with the ICPC and the Department of State Services (DSS) in joint surveillance operations, which led to the arrest of over 70 personnel within a year. Many of those arrested faced disciplinary measures and legal action.
As part of its broader anti-corruption drive, FRSC has partnered with the Akin Fadeyi Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation to launch the Flag-It app—a digital platform for the public to report extortion and misconduct by officers.
In addition, the Corps has developed an internal mobile application that allows for real-time reporting and also recognizes officers who demonstrate exemplary conduct.
The Corps Marshal urged members of the public and the media to remain vigilant and to make use of these tools to report any instances of misconduct on the roads.
