A student of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (formerly Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa), was reportedly assaulted by a group of fellow female students over allegations of “boyfriend snatching.”

A video that surfaced online on Wednesday showed the victim being repeatedly whipped with thick canes by several other students.

In the footage, the attackers appeared unapologetic, claiming that their mothers were aware of their actions and expressing no concern about any potential consequences.

The victim sustained visible injuries to her back and head during the assault.

Despite efforts by some onlookers to intervene, one of the students involved, identified as Lolade, insisted on continuing the attack, stating it was intended to teach the victim a lesson.

The Ogun State Police Command has since responded to the incident.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the command confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Igbesa has taken over the case and that an investigation is underway.

“The Ogun State Police Command is on top of the situation, and the DPO Igbesa has taken charge of the case,” the statement read.
