The Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, has called on startups and private sector players to increase their participation in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape through innovation.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the PricePally Impact Summit in Lagos on Monday, Olusanya emphasised the importance of scalable tech-driven solutions like PricePally in ensuring food accessibility, affordability, and sustainability.

The summit brought together key stakeholders across the food value chain—including farmers, policymakers, agritech entrepreneurs, investors, retailers, and logistics experts—to discuss the future of agriculture in Nigeria.

Olusanya praised the impact of digital platforms and community-driven distribution networks, particularly their role in maintaining food supply during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Startups like PricePally have successfully connected farmers directly to consumers, creating value on both ends,” she said.

“These are the kinds of innovations the government is eager to support.”

PricePally’s CEO, Luther Lawoyin, reiterated the company’s mission to uplift farmers and make agriculture a more viable and rewarding profession.

“Being a farmer in Nigeria is tough. We want to change that narrative.

Farmers deserve to be celebrated and financially secure—they are the backbone of our food ecosystem,” Lawoyin stated.

Speakers at the event also highlighted the importance of inclusion in the agricultural sector, advocating for greater involvement of women and young people.

Initiatives such as agri-call centres in northern Nigeria and the promotion of urban-friendly techniques like soilless farming were presented as examples of inclusive innovation.

The summit concluded with a shared commitment among participants to leverage technology and community engagement in reshaping Nigeria’s agricultural future.
