Gunmen kill baby, three others in Plateau

Four people, including a nine-month-old baby, were killed on Wednesday in an attack by gunmen in the Nkiendowro community of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The victims—two women, a man, and the infant—were reportedly returning from their farm after harvesting tomatoes when they were ambushed near a bridge close to the Tegbe-Nkiendowro area. They were on their way to sell the produce at the Farin-Gada market in Jos.

Two other individuals sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

The Miango Youths Development Association confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Joseph Chudu.

He expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in the region and the lack of accountability for ongoing violence.

Chudu said, “Every day, innocent lives are lost and nothing is done. Yesterday, four people, including a nine-month-old baby, were killed after they harvested tomatoes and were heading home. They were ambushed and killed on the way.”

He added that the matter had been reported to security agencies, but residents remain frustrated and fearful due to the frequency of such attacks.

Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off at the time of reporting.
